Job Description
DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as Protection Officer-Prevention & Capacity Strengthening.
The Protection Officer-Prevention &Capacity Strengthening will be responsible for enhancing the ability of staff, partners, and communities to deliver effective protection interventions, focus on building knowledge, skills, and systems that safeguard vulnerable populations, ensure compliance with international protection standards, and strengthen organizational capacity to respond to protection risks.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Project development and implementation
- Follow up on the quality of implementation of project activities at the field level, including appropriate documentation and management of protection cases.
- Provide hands-on training, coaching, mentoring to protection staff, ensuring clarity on protection tools and standards in consultation with protection coordinator.
- Identify key advocacy messages and promote dissemination of these within the operational context.
- Coordinate with the protection specialist to develop and deliver training modules on protection principles, safeguarding, child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), and humanitarian standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and technical support to staff and partners.
- Develop tools, guidelines, and resources to strengthen protection practices
- Conduct protection mainstreaming trainings and participate in any capacity assessment with support from the team leader and partnership officer.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for further programming, support needs assessments and gap analyses, and contribute to proposals and other program development initiatives.
- Contribute to timely review and submission of Protection reports as requested by the Protection Manager.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps in protection capacity.
- Support integration of protection principles into program design, implementation, and monitoring.
- Coordination and representation
- Collaborate with local NGOs, community groups, and government agencies to strengthen protection networks.
- Represent the organization in protection coordination forums and working groups.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing and best practices across teams and partners.
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Support planning and ensure that activities are implemented in accordance with project objectives and work plan.
- Collaborate & Coordinate with M& E team to ensure monitoring activities are mainstreamed with protection and ensure protection of vulnerable groups while gathering appropriate and accurate data on protection outcomes.
- With support from MEAL, develop indicators and tools to measure protection capacity strengthening outcomes.
- Document lessons learned and contributed to organizational learning.
- Contribute to preparation and submission of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports
- Logistics /Finance
- Monitor financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow-ups.
- Liase with DRC Administration, Logistics, and Finance Departments and the Protection Manager to ensure smooth operation of the field office.
