Position Summary
UYDEL is seeking a qualified Mental Health Nurse / Project Counsellor to provide psychosocial support to adolescent girls and their partners. The role involves delivering mental health services, building community awareness, and integrating emotional well-being into broader reproductive health and climate resilience programming.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct mental health screenings and provide individual and group counseling to adolescent girls and their partners.
Develop personalized care and referral plans in collaboration with health facilities and project teams.
Facilitate group therapy sessions and psychoeducation activities.
Work alongside project staff and community health workers to embed mental health into SRHR and climate resilience efforts.
Train peer educators, caregivers, and community leaders in mental health awareness and support strategies.
Monitor and document mental health trends, service outcomes, and case studies for reporting and learning.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma or Degree in Mental Health Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with adolescents, preferably in community-based or NGO settings.
Understanding of climate change and its impact on mental and reproductive health is a strong asset.
Proficient in interpersonal communication, case documentation, and teamwork.
Desirable Attributes
Empathetic, culturally sensitive, and youth-friendly approach to care.
Experience working in under-resourced or climate-vulnerable communities.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
