We are looking for a values-driven, confident leader who shares our passion for youth and positive youth development. The Coordinator will have strong management skills - balancing coordination and operational delivery with a strategic focus.
The program coordinator will lead the overall efficient implementation of both projects in Uganda, ensuring objectives are met, budget is spent appropriately and results are achieved. She/he will also engage with staff in other programme countries to guarantee delivery coherence, cross-learning, and collaborative advocacy.
Based in Uganda , she/he will be responsible for day to day implementation and reporting for both projects. She/he will be responsible for tracking of the implementation plan to ensure relevant outputs and outcomes are met. S/he will lead and coordinate with other technical team members where support is required. She/he will also be responsible for risk management and mitigation.
Programme Delivery:
Take responsibility for effective preparation, implementation, and monitoring of the Youth Action Lab, and the Youth Voices Lab projects in Uganda.
Coordinate the context and problem analysis through processing existing internal and external strategies and reports to strengthen the context and problem analysis.
Set up a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) to co-design and implement the inclusive funding mechanism.
Coordinate the identification of youth-led initiatives and ensure grantees are selected and supported through inclusive, participatory and accessible processes.
Coordinate the implementation of youth-led research and reporting to capture the experiences, challenges and best practices of youth-led initiatives.
Lead quality and timely reporting processes on performance, progress against strategic ambition, and learning.
Lead the sharing of programme learning across Restless Development, the youth collective, and contribute to the agency’s learning and growth agenda.
Contribute to the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks.
Coordinate and facilitate regular programme learning and adaptation platforms.
Lead program risk analysis, mitigation and response throughout the project's implementation.
Partnership and Collaboration:
Develop partnerships and facilitate links to expertise for grantees’ capacity strengthening needs.
Work with grantees to facilitate annual linking and learning events and convene exchanges between African and European youth.
Facilitate youth hackathon sessions (virtual innovation incubators) to foster intercontinental collaboration and creation of joint solutions.
Collaborate with the communication team to increase the visibility of program outcomes.
Ensure that key stakeholders at the district and National level have a clear understanding of the AU-EU projects and other Restless Development programs.
Financial Management and Compliance:
Work closely with the Programme Manager and Finance unit to:
Provide support for operational and financial aspects of the projects.
Track the project budget and develop monthly and quarterly financial report
Ensure that financial management is undertaken according to Restless Development policy and procedures.
Lead on generation of regular updates and reports as required
Ensure timely disbursement of funds to the local partners/grantees that are partnering with Restless Development in implementation of the project.
Lead in reviewing periodic financial reports to ensure alignment with project objectives.
Lead in ensuring compliance with key donor requirements and standards, including risk management and reporting.
Other Responsibilities:
Be prepared for occasional weekend or holiday work, with compensatory time off.
Undertake any other duties as required by the programme manager or project needs

Education: A bachelor's degree is often required, preferably in a related field such as business administration, management, communications, or a field relevant to the program being coordinated. Some positions may require a master's degree, particularly for more specialized or senior roles.
Experience: While entry-level positions may accept candidates with limited experience, many employers prefer candidates with previous experience in program coordination, project management, or a related field. This experience may be gained through internships, volunteer work, or previous employment.
Organizational Skills: Program coordinators must be highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. They should be adept at creating and maintaining schedules, coordinating logistics, and keeping detailed records.
Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are essential for program coordinators, as they often need to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including program participants, staff members, volunteers, donors, and external partners. This includes both verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Program coordinators must be able to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They should be skilled at building relationships, resolving conflicts, and motivating others.
Problem-Solving Skills: Program coordinators should be able to identify challenges and obstacles that arise during the implementation of the program and develop creative solutions to address them.
Leadership Abilities: While program coordinators may not always have direct supervisory responsibilities, they often need to provide leadership and guidance to program staff, volunteers, and participants. Strong leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate others, are important.
Flexibility and Adaptability: Programs can be dynamic and may require adjustments to plans and strategies based on changing circumstances or feedback from stakeholders. Program coordinators should be flexible and adaptable, able to respond effectively to unexpected challenges or opportunities.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with basic computer software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as project management tools and databases, is often required. Some positions may require familiarity with specific software or technology platforms relevant to the program being coordinated.
Knowledge of Relevant Regulations and Policies: Depending on the nature of the program, program coordinators may need to have knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, and best practices. This could include areas such as health and safety regulations, compliance requirements, or industry standards.
