About the Organisation

Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is a non-profit international development organization dedicated to transforming agriculture in Africa by empowering smallholder farmers with knowledge, technology, and market access to achieve food security, income growth, and sustainable livelihoods. Founded in 1986 through a partnership between Japanese philanthropist Ryoichi Sasakawa, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, and Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, SAA has built a strong reputation across the continent for its science-based, farmer-centered approach to agricultural development.

With a dynamic and mission-driven work culture, SAA values its employees as agents of change and offers opportunities for capacity building, cross-country collaboration, and flexible work arrangements suited for impactful field-based roles. Over the years, the organization has evolved its strategy to align with changing agricultural ecosystems, placing greater emphasis on climate-smart practices, gender inclusivity, and value chain development.

Its innovative model integrates extension services, agribusiness promotion, and postharvest technologies, reaching millions of farmers in countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mali, and Uganda. SAA’s core values—respect, innovation, accountability, and impact—are deeply embedded in its operations, and its commitment to CSR is reflected in efforts to build resilient farming communities, promote youth engagement, and support environmental sustainability.
