Job Description
The incumbent will oversee shift start-up, production processes, food safety, and people management. This includes validating machinery readiness, managing staffing levels, monitoring hourly production targets, ensuring compliance with Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and implementing corrective actions where necessary. The role also involves compiling shift reports, liaising with maintenance teams, monitoring yields, controlling overtime, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring clean, safe working conditions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage shift start-up: validate production plans, machinery readiness, and staffing.
Conduct regular quality checks on finished products and enforce corrective actions.
Monitor hourly targets, yields, and ensure accurate damage recording.
Oversee compliance with FSMS, OHS, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Prepare detailed handover and breakdown reports.
Ensure maintenance issues are reported and job cards completed.
Enforce "clean as you work" policies and review departmental recording documents.
Manage shift staffing, timekeeping, overtime approvals, and leave replacements.
Conduct on-the-job training, cross-training, and performance reviews.
Implement disciplinary action when required and monitor team productivity.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Matric (NQF 4) or equivalent.
SA Chamber of Baking Certificate.
Experience:
3+ years in a manufacturing supervisory role.
2+ years in perishable food manufacturing and FMCG.
Skills/Knowledge:
Practical knowledge of ERP systems.
Strong computer literacy (especially Excel).
Full understanding of FSMS and OHS systems.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
