Job Description
The Production Journalist (Night Team) will be responsible for producing, editing, and publishing compelling news stories suited for digital audiences. This includes sub-editing content for clarity, accuracy, and house style, sourcing and editing visuals, managing content flow across platforms, and responding to breaking news events in real-time. The role demands flexibility, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently during night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Write, rewrite, and edit news stories for online publication
Enhance articles with relevant visuals and multimedia content
Source and curate content from local and international sources
Moderate user comments on the platform
Compile and publish breaking news or aggregated stories quickly
Manage content flow to News24 from various internal sections when the site editor is unavailable
Run live blogs for unfolding news events
Send out newsletters as required
Work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and public holidays

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, media, or communications
Experience:
3–5 years of experience in journalism, preferably in a digital environment
Proven background as a reporter, sub-editor, or production journalist
Competencies:
Excellent writing, rewriting, and editing skills
Strong eye for visuals and experience with photo editing or graphics is an advantage
Deep understanding of local and international news
Fast, accurate, and calm under pressure
Strong attention to detail
Proficiency with a Content Management System (CMS)
Adaptability and willingness to work independently at night
