Job Description
The role requires strategic editorial input across all stages of the production lifecycle—from budgeting and format approval to talent selection and quality control. The Commissioning Editor will work closely with producers and internal teams to evaluate content ideas, ensure alignment with VIA’s Afrikaans market strategy, and maintain high-quality standards in visual and editorial output. This role also includes stakeholder engagement with platforms such as Showmax and DStv Stream, managing updates, and ensuring the successful execution of programming.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Participate in monthly reviews of completed shows
Scrutinize and approve producers’ budgets pre-contracting
Monitor and authorize barter deals
Collaborate with Head of Content on AFP processes (format approvals, budget, talent, and crew sign-offs)
Provide creative and strategic editorial input during content development
Oversee graphic quality, including visuals, spelling, and text
Supervise casting to ensure alignment with VIA’s target audience
Generate and assess new content ideas aligned with VIA’s strategy
Build and maintain relationships with producers for prompt feedback and delivery
Assist the Head of Content and content team in day-to-day operations and ad hoc tasks
Maintain communication and manage content announcements with stakeholders such as Showmax and DStv Stream
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree or Diploma in Film and Television, Scriptwriting, Film Production, or Creative Writing
Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in film/TV production or a similar editorial role
Skills and Competencies:
Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
Fluent in Afrikaans (written and spoken)
Strong editorial judgment and project management skills
Ability to assess budgets and provide creative input
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
