The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

How to Apply
Develop and implement environmental enforcement plans and operations.
Coordinate the deployment and activities of law enforcement personnel for environmental surveillance and compliance actions.
Enforce environmental legislation and ensure adherence to national standards for sustainability.
Recommend and oversee capacity-building initiatives for members of the Environment Protection Force.
Conduct regular monitoring and inspections of ecosystems to prevent or mitigate environmental degradation.
Collaborate with Lead Agencies, security forces, community groups, and other stakeholders to enhance environmental awareness and conservation efforts.
Identify environmental risks, propose mitigation strategies, and manage incidents affecting the environment.
Contribute to the formulation of long-term strategies for environmental protection and enforcement.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of officers under your command.
Carry out any other official duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in any of the following fields: Law, Psychology, Criminology, Environment and Natural Resources, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Development Studies, or Business Administration from a recognized university or institution.
Master’s Degree in any of the above disciplines from a recognized university or institution.
Additional Requirements
Must have undergone military or law enforcement training.
Must possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued by Interpol.
Experience
A minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience in law enforcement, environmental protection, or a related field.
At least two (2) years must be at the Senior Officer level in a reputable organization.
