Job Description
The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of employee payroll, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and tax liabilities. This role involves entering payroll data into Sage 300 People, compiling Excel-based job costing batches for seagoing vessels, and assisting in preparing reports and importing pay batches. The successful candidate will ensure that payroll processes comply with tax regulations and labor legislation, support month-end processes, and contribute to smooth payroll operations within the finance department.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
End-to-end payroll processing, including data entry, validation, and reconciliation
Accurate calculation and disbursement of wages, bonuses, and deductions
Compile Excel job costing batches for seagoing vessels
Assist in macro functions and importation of batches for monthly payroll runs
Generate routine and ad-hoc payroll reports and payments
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and company policies
Collaborate with the finance department on month-end payroll processes
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Grade 12
Payroll certification (advantageous)
Experience:
2–5 years of payroll experience
Minimum 1 year of experience with Sage 300 People (including job costing modules)
Experience with time and attendance systems and multiple pay frequencies
Experience in the fishing industry (advantageous)
Skills and Competencies:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs)
Solid knowledge of payroll principles and related legislation (Tax, BCEA, employee benefits)
Strong attention to detail and time management
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Team player with the ability to work independently
