Job Opportunity: Newborn Health Technical Officer

Organization: Adara Development

Location: Uganda (with regular travel to Adara’s project sites and partner hospitals)

Employment Type: Full-time | Ongoing Contract

Reports To: Newborn Health Manager


We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Newborn Health Technical Officer to join our dedicated team in Uganda. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Ugandan professional to contribute to life-saving work that supports vulnerable communities.


Role Summary:

The Newborn Health Technical Officer will play a critical role in strengthening the quality and delivery of newborn care in Adara-supported health facilities. The focus is on building the capacity of health workers and systems to provide evidence-based care for sick, small, and healthy newborns. This includes:

  • Providing technical mentorship and on-the-job training

  • Supporting health systems strengthening

  • Collaborating with health facility teams, district health offices, and the Ministry of Health

  • Contributing to the reduction of neonatal morbidity and mortality in line with national health strategies

Key Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, Public Health, or a related field

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in neonatal care, including work in a Neonatal Care Unit

  • Demonstrated experience in health worker training and mentorship

  • Strong understanding of Uganda’s national strategies for newborn and maternal health

  • Proficiency in Luganda and English

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and project management skills

  • Willingness to travel frequently and work in remote field locations, including extended stays

  • High levels of integrity, accountability, and teamwork
