Job Description
The MTO will work closely with the Medical Training Consultant (MTC) and report directly to them. Responsibilities include implementing the Emergency Educational Program (EMR-PGME), supporting and supervising field training officers, adapting curricula to local contexts, monitoring training programs, facilitating interdepartmental collaboration, managing training resources, developing trainers, advising on training policies, and promoting continuous professional development. The MTO will ensure that training aligns with EMERGENCY’s standards and addresses the realities of field operations. They will be based at the main office but will conduct regular field visits to Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Uganda.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee and coordinate the EMR-PGME program implementation across all field projects.
Support field training officers in developing and executing training activities.
Conduct regular field visits to monitor and evaluate training programs.
Implement and adapt medical curricula to local and national standards.
Utilize diverse teaching methods including active and bedside learning.
Collect and analyze training data for program improvement.
Prepare reports on training activities and outcomes.
Coordinate training strategies across departments and projects.
Engage with academic authorities to enhance training partnerships.
Oversee the development and management of educational materials and resources.
Collaborate on trainer development and succession planning.
Provide advisory support to Medical Coordinators and field training staff.
Promote a culture of continuous professional development.
Contribute to training budget management and strategic planning.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Specialization in Anesthesia and Intensive Care (alternatively General Surgery or Internal Medicine).
Experience in Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) and fellowship-level training.
Excellent English language skills (C1 level).
Commitment to EMERGENCY’s humanitarian principles and operational approach.
Strong communication, mentorship, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work in multicultural and challenging environments.
Capacity for frequent travel to field locations.
