Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Lead communications processes and messaging in emergency response situations.
Coordinate global awareness and advocacy campaigns across the War Child Alliance network.
Develop communications strategies that support advocacy objectives and boost visibility.
Secure impactful coverage in international media outlets (e.g. CNN, BBC, New York Times, Al Jazeera).
Advise teams across the Alliance on branding, messaging, and risk management.
Support creation of high-quality content (press releases, statements, case studies, creative concepts).
Collaborate with fundraising teams to engage corporate partners, ambassadors, and supporters in campaigns.
Represent communications in emergency coordination and coalitions such as CeasefireNOW.
Monitor communications risks and provide mitigation strategies.
Ensure campaign content is timely, topical, and aligned across global platforms.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage global communications during crises.
Coordinate and co-create external campaigns with advocacy and comms teams.
Translate complex policy and advocacy concepts into engaging messaging.
Build and maintain relationships with global media.
Source, draft, and distribute media content across platforms.
Track and respond to global media opportunities.
Mentor teams across Alliance members on campaign and media approaches.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential:
Experience in emergency/crisis communications.
Strong knowledge of humanitarian or human rights sectors.
Proven track record in securing impactful international media coverage.
Excellent writing skills (press releases, statements, social media, articles).
Experience developing and implementing campaign strategies.
Sound knowledge of the global media landscape with active contacts.
Ability to self-manage and work flexibly in hybrid teams.
Fluency in English (oral and written).
Preferred:
Existing international media contacts relevant to War Child’s work.
Experience preparing charity spokespersons for media interviews.
Use of social media for campaigns.
Working knowledge of Arabic, Dutch, French, German, or Swedish.
