Job Description
The Managing Director will provide leadership and strategic direction to VFS South Africa, ensuring alignment with Volvo Group objectives. Responsibilities include driving business performance, managing profitability, fostering customer-centric culture, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The MD will collaborate with various business areas—Volvo Trucks, Volvo Bus, and Volvo Construction Equipment—to strengthen synergies and deliver value-added financial services. The role includes team leadership, risk management, and representing VFS in local management structures.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the VFS strategy and lead the business plan for South Africa
Represent VFS in the local Country Management Team (CMT)
Drive business performance across sales, profitability, assets, and expenses
Align VFS operations with Business Areas to support their market objectives
Develop a customer-focused and results-driven team culture
Maintain transparent relationships with local regulatory authorities
Lead, mentor, and develop staff to ensure professional growth and high performance
Ensure full compliance with legislative and internal Volvo Group standards
Serve as legal representative where necessary
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 10 years in captive financing, preferably in equipment leasing
Profit and Loss responsibility
Experience in commercial vehicle, construction equipment, or asset finance industry
Knowledge of dealer distribution networks and credit underwriting
Prior experience in international environments
Competencies:
Strong leadership and strategic planning skills
Ability to assess and manage business and credit risks
Strong business and financial acumen
Proven track record in achieving business objectives
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
High level of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality
Computer literacy in MS Office
