The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a Government Agency mandated to oversee Standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology, and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of promoting fair trade and protecting consumers and the environment from harmful commodities.

MANAGER IMPORTS INSPECTION – 1 POSITION

Reports to: Deputy Executive Director – Compliance

The Manager Imports Inspection is responsible for developing and coordinating policies and procedures to guide compliance with standards for all imported goods and for managing daily activities of the Imports Inspection Department in line with the UNBS mandate.

How to Apply

  • Develop and monitor policies, procedures, and guidelines for field inspection of imported products in line with the UNBS Act and departmental procedures

  • Develop and implement programmes to ensure imported goods conform to Uganda and international standards to protect consumers and the environment

  • Coordinate development of the departmental annual, quarterly, and monthly budgets, work plans, and targets

  • Design strategies to increase stakeholder awareness and expand the number of border points manned by UNBS

  • Develop proposals and MoUs for collaboration with government agencies

  • Prepare for harmonization of imports inspection procedures with EAC requirements

  • Promote collaboration with key partners such as URA

  • Develop policies that enforce high ethical conduct among departmental staff

  • Develop inspection programmes in line with ISO/IEC 17020 standards

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual departmental performance reports

  • Coordinate staff performance and conduct regular performance reviews

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Food Technology, Engineering, or other related sciences from a recognized institution

  • Honours degree in any of the above fields

  • Training in management is an added advantage

  • Minimum of 9 years’ experience, at least 5 of which must be supervisory

  • Membership in a relevant professional body is an added advantage

  • Strong analytical, innovative, strategic and data–interpretation skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, ICT, and decision-making skills

  • High moral and ethical standards

  • Age: 35–55 years
