Job Title: Manager – Climate and Green Jobs
Organisation: WWF Uganda

Job Summary: The Manager – Climate and Green Jobs will provide leadership, to plan, coordinate, manage and monitor the implementation of climate resilient value chains program that address climate change mitigation and adaptation, and for development by supporting climate resilient income opportunities and access to sustainable “green Jobs” in line with WWF UCO strategic objectives.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
In this regard, the Manager – Climate and Green Jobs will carry out the following;
Support climate resilient values chain that strengthens capacity of small holder farmers to adapt to rapidly changing impacts of micro-climate effects and withstanding shocks
Support WWF-UCO in developing and mainstreaming climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and actions in energy, forestry and freshwater initiatives based on the findings and recommendations from WWF-UCO Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and other related studies.
Assess and recommend Nature based solutions, sustainable ecosystem-based management interventions for climate resilience, mitigation and development in the Albertine Graben.
Work with partners and experts to undertake value chain studies and determine most profitable value chains that increase economic opportunities to participating households in the landscape
Lead staff and partners to identify and partner with private sector actors and financial institutions to provide marketing and financial solutions to actors along the value chain to unlock barriers to productivity and profitability
Support the development of climate change mitigation and adaptation capacity strengthening initiatives for WWF- UCO staff and partners including climate smart conservation and community-based climate risk assessments as well as identification of locally suited nature-based solutions.
Ensure coordination with the WWF-UCO Forest initiatives and promote synergies within the various project
portfolios related to NbS, resilience and the development of Green Jobs and value chain mechanisms, including food systems, coffee value chains and Nature based Enterprises (NbE).
Collaborate with the Regional Office of Africa (ROA) and the WWF-UCO conservation team to build relationships with environmental and development NGOs, Government Ministries and Departments, the academia to develop and share new ideas on mitigation and adaptation practice frameworks, strategies and tools.
Interact with the global WWF NbS network and the WWF energy and climate practice to incorporate global perspectives to the national context and promote lessons learnt and best practices.
Support the development of funding opportunities for Climate Change and NbS work.
Support local, national and international processes on climate change adaptation and development of climate proof sustainable energy infrastructure and reduction of carbon footprints.
Support national and international advocacy relevant to climate change, mitigation and adaptation and NbS development.
Monitor and evaluate climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions with national and local stakeholders in the Albertine Graben in line with the WWF standards and guidelines.
Support WWF-UCO in undertaking research, innovation and development of sustainability tools to promote green technologies and practices for improved environmental and social performance.
Contribute to the WWF-UCO planning, implementation, reporting and learning activities especially in reporting based on NbS, climate change mitigation, and adaptation lens.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agroecology, social Forestry, Natural Resource economics or a related field.
A Master’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Climate change sciences, Agriculture and food systems, Climate or green financing, Impact investing, or related field.
Professional training in Project Planning and Management is an asset.
Required Experience
At least 7 years of work experience in Agroecology, Value chain development, Climate change, Green and Nature- based enterprises, or any other related field.
The ideal candidate should have experience with NbS implementation on the ground and a good understanding of the IUCN NbS Standard.
Proven practical experience in project coordination and management in the field of nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based management, green enterprises and/or climate change adaptation and mitigation is a must.
Required skills and Competencies
Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and innovative problem-solving ability.
Demonstrated ability to handle complex process and information integration issues.
Excellent knowledge of global environmental standards and frameworks, e.g. the Paris Agreement, SDGs and the Uganda National Development Plans.
Ability to coordinate major capacity building needs assessment, planning, development and implementation of capacity building initiatives.
Ability to effectively manage partners and multi-stakeholder processes.
Ability to maintain effective working relations both as a team member and team leader.
Ability to establish priorities and to plan, budget, coordinate and monitor own work plan and those under his/her supervision.
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi¬cultural, multi-interest, multi-ethnic environment.
Excellent organization skills; Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task under limited supervision.
