Manager, Fleet

Organization: Raising The Village (RTV)

Location: Uganda

Position Overview

Job Title: Manager, Fleet

Reports To: Regional Programs Director

As Manager, Fleet, you will lead the strategic and operational management of RTV’s vehicle and motorbike fleet across all program areas. Your goal is to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation of staff, goods, and materials in support of RTV’s mission.

You will oversee everything from vehicle procurement, maintenance, and fuel management to driver supervision and regulatory compliance, while playing a critical role in strengthening RTV’s logistics infrastructure.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Fleet Management & Planning

  • Develop and implement fleet policies and operational strategies.

  • Plan vehicle acquisition, disposal, and replacements in line with budget and organizational growth.


Maintenance & Compliance

  • Coordinate routine vehicle and motorbike servicing and inspections.

  • Ensure all fleet assets are roadworthy, insured, and compliant with national transport laws.

  • Oversee repairs and maintain up-to-date service records.


Driver Oversight & Safety

  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate drivers and fleet support staff.

  • Conduct regular training on safe driving, emergency procedures, and organizational protocols.

  • Monitor driver performance and manage incident reporting and resolution.


Utilization Tracking & Reporting

  • Track vehicle usage, mileage, and fuel consumption using GPS and fleet management systems.

  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports on fleet efficiency and performance.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.


Logistics Support

  • Allocate and schedule fleet resources to meet program and operational demands.

  • Coordinate movement of staff, equipment, and materials across program sites.

  • Manage emergencies and breakdowns promptly to minimize disruption.


Risk & Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain accurate documentation including registrations, insurance, and inspection reports.

  • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards.

  • Investigate and report on any accidents or violations involving RTV vehicles.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in fleet or transport management, preferably in a multi-site or NGO environment.

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • In-depth understanding of vehicle maintenance and logistics operations

    • Familiarity with GPS tracking and fleet management software

  • Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

    • Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills

    • Willingness to travel frequently to program areas
