Job Description
Job Title: Luganda News Reporter (Male)
Organisation: Nation Media Group (NMG)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
To gather quality, accurate, balanced and credible news for multimedia platforms, ensuring processing within set deadlines and that the stories are well researched, edited and conform to journalistic ethics, editorial objectives and house style.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and report multimedia stories in publishable form, so that no major rewrite is required.
Attend assigned news functions, taking notes, conduct interviews, check facts and making audio/visual recordings as the case may be.
Deliver scoops.
Multi-platform pitching.
Take instructions and briefs from the News Producer/Editor on stories to be covered.
Research and provide background information to make stories complete.
Brief the News Producer and News Editor on stories gathered and edit selected ones within set deadlines.
Follow news leads and maintain close contacts with news sources.
Responsible for the correctness of facts, content and style of their content and ensure it is free from errors and libel/defamation.
Respond promptly to news breaks.
Closely cooperate with camera persons, photographers and other co-creators.
Ensure that the content produced reflects a thorough understanding of NMG’s editorial policy guidelines and objectives, house style and the code of ethical journalism.
Continually build a contacts list and demonstrate its value with consistent exclusive content.
File all elements of digital stories as per Digital First policy (alerts; social media; web story; multimedia) within defined deadlines;
Adhere to the Editorial and Social Media Policy as updated from time to time.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic: University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution.
Professional: Diploma in Journalism
Experience: At least 1 to 2 years of experience in the media industry with proven ability to conceptualize, edit and execute television stories and an excellent command of the Luganda Language.
Core Competencies
Ability to analyse and simplify complex reports for our audiences
Knowledge and experience of using a CMS is desirable
Live TV reporting and packaging as well as ability to work across platforms is highly desirable
Ability to gather, write and edit content Adept at making editorial judgements Excellent verbal & written communication skills Understanding of the media law Must possess good research, interviewing and reporting skills Ability to work with minimum supervision Must possess high level of integrity Must be able to demonstrate a unique skills set in managing digital media television production workflow systems.
