Job Description
The Finance and Payments Officer will provide administrative and financial support to the LIT TRAIN Pillar. The role includes supporting compliance and finance functions throughout the project lifecycle, processing payments to vendors, managing budget revisions, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. The postholder will contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts and support program delivery to ensure smooth financial and operational processes aligned with British Council standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support all compliance and finance aspects during project inception, implementation, and closure in line with British Council and client requirements.
Assist in monitoring and evaluation processes and contribute to lessons learned for program improvement.
Support timely and accurate payment processing for vendors, including travel and per diems.
Assist with budget revisions, quarterly budget profiling, activity planning, and financial reporting.
Proactively communicate and coordinate with internal teams, partners, and suppliers to ensure effective delivery of program activities.
Build understanding of roles across LIT TRAIN Pillar team, British Council Uganda non-LIT teams, regional finance, procurement, and payments teams to facilitate problem resolution.
Plan and prioritize daily work activities, adapting to changing requirements for efficient task completion.
Coordinate tasks with colleagues and external contractors, ensuring activities are completed on time and meet quality standards.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
First degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
English language proficiency at CEFR level B2 or above.
Proven experience supporting projects, especially in finance or administration.
Ability to meet tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Desirable: Experience supporting payments and previous work on education programs.
