Job Opportunity: Lecturer – Psychiatry Department

Reports To: Head of Department
No. of Positions: 1
Duty Station: King Ceasor University, Main Campus – Ggaba Road, Kampala

Job Purpose:

To design, implement, and oversee undergraduate programs in Psychiatry, including curriculum development, operational administration, teaching, quality assurance, and research in accordance with standards set by the University and relevant professional bodies.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging, and relevant teaching and learning experiences to undergraduate students.

  • Engage in academic research and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the Psychiatry discipline.

  • Publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals within the area of specialization.

  • Set and uphold academic standards, monitoring performance against established benchmarks.

  • Mentor and support junior faculty including Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers within the department.

  • Participate in curriculum development, review, and alignment with professional standards.

  • Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

  • Collaborate and network with other institutions to ensure program relevance and academic growth.

  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

  • Participate in community outreach and service initiatives aligned with the University’s mission.

  • Assist the Head of Department and Dean in providing academic leadership and strategic direction.

  • Carry out any additional responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  1. Academic Qualifications:

    • A Master’s degree in Psychiatry or a closely related field is required.

    • A PhD in the relevant field is an added advantage.

  2. Teaching and Academic Experience:

    • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at a recognized institution of higher learning, with at least three (3) years at Lecturer level.

    • Demonstrated ability to supervise graduate research—at least three (3) graduate students successfully supervised to completion.

  3. Research and Publications:

    • A minimum of eight (8) recognized publications in the relevant field, with at least three (3) published in the last three years prior to application.

  4. Other Requirements:

    • Evidence of strong pedagogical skills and commitment to teaching excellence.

    • Proven academic and research track record.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.

    • Computer literacy and proficiency in using technology for teaching and academic management.

    • A demonstrated record of service and commitment to academic integrity.
