Job Description

Reporting to the Deployment Director, the Lead Field Technician will manage the end-to-end technical deployment process of the S+ system across client sites. Responsibilities include conducting site readiness assessments, supervising installation teams, resolving escalated technical issues, and ensuring high-quality system performance. The role also involves training internal field technicians and Technical Service Providers (TSPs), performing quality assurance reviews, and documenting all installation and support activities. The successful candidate will be technically skilled, adaptable to rural and low-infrastructure environments, and capable of leading teams in the field.

  • Conduct site readiness assessments for power, roof access, and installation feasibility.

  • Oversee and execute installations of the S+ system at healthcare facilities.

  • Supervise and support internal teams and TSPs during installations.

  • Troubleshoot complex hardware and connectivity issues on-site and remotely.

  • Provide escalation support for field tickets and diagnostics.

  • Deliver hands-on technical training to technicians and TSPs.

  • Ensure smooth handovers to field support after installations or trial phases.

  • Perform QA checks, document interventions (photos, logs, sign-offs), and escalate issues.

  • Maintain installation toolkits and update checklists regularly.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Education & Skills

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer-related field.

  • Strong proficiency in electrical work, tools, and diagnostics.

  • Excellent communication and training delivery skills.

  • Ability to work independently in rural/low-infrastructure settings.

  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; additional languages are an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in hardware installations and technical support.

  • Experience with solar systems, networking, or hardware deployments in East Africa (preferred).

  • Background in technician mentoring or supervision.

  • Familiarity with Android devices, Wi-Fi/4G setups, and remote troubleshooting.

Tools & Systems

  • Odoo (ticketing and installation logging).

  • Excel/Google Sheets.

  • Multimeters, hand tools, and S+ Platform components.
