Junior Accountant Job at FMCG Distributor
FMCG Distributor
Job Description
The Junior Accountant supports the Finance team by performing daily accounting tasks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with internal procedures and statutory requirements. Operating within a fast-paced FMCG distribution environment, the Junior Accountant focuses on transaction posting, reconciliations, documentation management, and supporting senior finance personnel in preparation of financial schedules and audit requirements.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
A. Financial Data Entry & Record Maintenance
- Record daily financial transactions in line with IFRS.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of source documents.
- Maintain organized accounting files and electronic records.
B. Accounts Payable Support
- Receive and pre-check supplier invoices and staff claims.
- Assist in preparing payment vouchers.
- Follow up on incomplete documentation.
C. Accounts Receivable Support
- Post customer receipts and update customer ledgers.
- Perform debtor reconciliations and ageing reports.
D. Bank & Petty Cash Support
- Record petty cash usage and prepare replenishment schedules.
- Perform bank reconciliations and variance tracking.
E. Inventory & Stock Accounting Support
- Capture stock movements and adjustments.
- Participate in periodic stock counts and reconciliations.
F. Tax & Statutory Compliance Support
- Prepare basic schedules for VAT, PAYE, WHT, NSSF, LST filings.
- Ensure source documents meet statutory requirements.
G. Audit & Internal Controls Support
- Prepare audit support documents.
- Report control gaps to the Accountant.
H. Cross-Departmental Coordination
- Work with operations, warehouse, procurement, and sales teams to ensure accurate data capture.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Timeliness and accuracy of financial postings.
- Quality and completeness of reconciliations.
- Compliance with internal controls and statutory standards.
- Accuracy of documentation and record-keeping.
- Effective support during audits.
