The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE), was established in July 2010, following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 64/269. The Centre provides efficient, client-oriented and scalable services with the goal of moving transactional, non-location dependent administrative functions to the Centre from its client entities. This includes transactional elements of human resources, finance, multimodal movement and control, personnel and cargo transport and information and communications technology (ICT) support.
In addition to these services, the Office of the Director RSCE and the Deputy provides overall guidance on the operations of the RSCE including strategic planning, communication, budgeting, human resources management, property management, quality assurance and business intelligence, conference services, record keeping and archive management, and audit response and risk management.

Role Summary
Under the supervision of the ICT Officer/Network Engineer, the IT Technician will support the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems that power voice, data, and video communications across the UN campus and remote sites. This role is hands-on, involving fieldwork, coordination with contractors, and technical documentation.

How to Apply
Structured Cabling Installation & Termination
Install and terminate copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a) and fibre optic cables to international standards (e.g., TIA/EIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801)
Mount patch panels, network racks, fibre enclosures, and wall outlets
Set up telecommunications infrastructure within buildings for LAN/voice/data systems
Cable Management & Documentation
Route cables through trays, conduits, and risers; manage and label all installations
Maintain accurate As-Built drawings and network diagrams using Visio or CAD
Update asset inventories and patch panel maps regularly
Testing & Certification
Use certified tools (e.g., Fluke tester) to test and certify cable installations
Generate and submit certification reports for completed work
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and repair faults in cabling and connectivity
Perform preventive maintenance and inspect cabling infrastructure
Maintain and troubleshoot voice/data outlets and fibre connections
Grounding, Bonding & Lightning Protection
Install and maintain grounding systems; ensure resistance readings <5 ohms
Prepare and monitor earth pits, bonding rods, and discharge points in over 300 manholes
Interconnect grounding networks across all ICT installations
Additional Support Duties
Assist with UPS and battery bank replacements
Support rigging tasks and PMP (Point-to-MultiPoint) wireless installations
Perform basic maintenance of physical security (CCTV) systems
Coordination & Compliance
Liaise with ICT teams, building managers, and contractors
Ensure compliance with UN safety regulations and technical standards
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Vocational or technical training in ICT or Electrical Engineering (desirable)
Technical certification in cabling, fibre optics, or a related field (preferred)
Valid rigger’s certificate is an added advantage
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in ICT infrastructure, including structured cabling and fibre splicing
Familiarity with LAN tools and fibre splicing equipment is essential
Experience using Microsoft 365 and office tools for documentation is desirable
Prior experience in UN Peacekeeping or international organizations is a plus
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
Knowledge of French is desirable
