How to Apply
Oversee daily farm operations to ensure full compliance with Ugandan occupational health and safety (OHS) laws and internal policies
Identify and address hazardous conditions, unsafe practices, and non-compliance through regular inspections and safety audits
Inspect machinery, greenhouse equipment, tools, and vehicles; coordinate repairs and maintenance to minimize risks and downtime
Organize and deliver safety induction and refresher training for employees, contractors, and visitors—especially in high-risk areas (e.g., greenhouses, irrigation, spraying units)
Investigate incidents, injuries, and near-misses; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions
Ensure visibility and correct placement of safety signage across all farm departments
Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to align health and safety practices with certification requirements (e.g., MPS, ISO)
Develop and update safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response plans (e.g., chemical handling, fire safety, PPE use)
Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for critical farm operations such as propagation, harvesting, and logistics
Monitor and manage environmentally responsible waste disposal practices in line with NEMA and other environmental standards
Stay informed about changes in health and safety legislation and ensure continued legal compliance
Prepare and present safety reports to management, highlighting trends, risks, incidents, and recommendations for improvement
Serve as liaison with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement during inspections or investigations
Foster a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and active engagement at all levels
Participate in ongoing professional development, including workshops, seminars, and certifications to maintain industry best practices
Required Education & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or a Diploma in Health & Safety are highly desirable
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in health and safety management, preferably within agriculture, horticulture, or manufacturing/production environments
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of Ugandan OHS legislation (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Act 2006, NEMA regulations)
Experience implementing and auditing against standards such as ISO 45001, MPS-ECAS, and other safety frameworks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with digital safety management systems is a plus
Solid knowledge of hazard identification, agrochemical safety, biological and equipment-related risks
Ability to analyze safety KPIs and incident data for reporting and continuous improvement
Soft Skills:
Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
Strong interpersonal and communication abilities—capable of delivering effective training to diverse audiences
Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently across departments
