Job Description
Position Title: Head of Disability Inclusion Advisory Unit

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic individual to lead our Disability Inclusion Advisory Unit (DIAU) in Uganda. This role is instrumental in positioning Light for the World as a recognized expert in disability inclusion, with a focus on scaling up our Disability Inclusion Facilitator (DIF) Model.
The Head of DIAU will also play a lead role in implementing the We Can Work (WCW) project supported by the Mastercard Foundation—aimed at enabling young people with disabilities to access dignified work by 2030. Uganda serves as a regional hub, supporting other countries in disability inclusion strategies.
You will be part of the Senior Management Team, providing technical and strategic oversight to disability inclusion efforts across programmes, partnerships, and external engagements.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Technical Oversight
Lead the development and implementation of strategic disability inclusion partnerships across NGOs, government, and private sector actors.
Oversee the effective integration of evidence-based and innovative disability inclusion practices into project design and delivery.
Ensure consistent quality implementation of the Disability Inclusion Facilitator (DIF) Model across all programs and regional hubs.
Team Management & Capacity Building
Provide technical supervision and coaching to the Disability Inclusion Advisors (DIAs) and DIF teams.
Foster learning, knowledge exchange, and cross-project collaboration within the team.
Ensure the professional growth of DIAU staff through regular performance reviews and mentorship.
Programme & Partnership Development
Lead inclusion advisory services in Uganda and support other countries in capacity building efforts.
Liaise with local and international stakeholders including Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), youth-led initiatives, and development agencies.
Promote disability inclusion in government and donor-funded programmes.
Monitoring, Learning, and Influence
Collect, document, and share lessons learned, case studies, and stories of change related to disability mainstreaming.
Represent Light for the World in national and international forums and working groups on disability inclusion.
Support thought leadership through research insights, policy recommendations, and external communication.
Resource Mobilization
Identify opportunities for advisory services and contribute to developing high-quality proposals and budgets.
Ensure timely delivery and compliance of all donor-funded disability inclusion projects.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Master’s degree in Development Studies, Sociology, Disability Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, or related fields.
Professional Experience:
At least 5 years of experience managing donor-funded projects within an INGO or NGO environment.
Proven leadership in disability inclusion programming and working with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
Strong experience in partnership management, government liaison, and cross-sector collaboration.
Demonstrated experience in capacity building, facilitation, and advisory services.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication, presentation, and people management skills.
Innovative and strategic thinker with a solution-oriented mindset.
Strong organizational skills with a high level of integrity and accountability.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools.
