Job Description
The Head of Crude Oil Marketing and Trading will provide strategic and operational leadership for UNOC’s crude oil marketing sales price risk management and trading functions. The role is responsible for the optimal placement of Uganda’s crude oil entitlements development of commercial markets execution of risk managed trading activities and oversight of lifting operations in alignment with national and corporate policies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Oil Marketing and Business Development
- Develop and execute global marketing and sales strategies for Uganda’s crude oil entitlements aligned with national production and refining capacity
- Prepare proposals for term sales and marketing arrangements where appropriate
- Identify develop and manage customer relationships across Africa Asia and Europe
- Maintain strong customer engagement through effective communication KYC compliance and understanding customer business drivers
- Support bilateral and government to government trade initiatives
- Lead customer presentations roadshows and act as custodian of key commercial relationships
Sales and Trading Strategy Execution
- Oversee term and spot crude oil sales including pricing strategy contract negotiation and performance monitoring
- Manage authorised trading activities to exploit arbitrage opportunities and optimise crude placement
- Recommend and execute crude sales and trading transactions while managing payment performance compliance and contractual risks
- Develop pricing strategies contract structures and performance monitoring frameworks in collaboration with risk and finance teams
- Coordinate with operations logistics finance and risk teams to ensure efficient cargo delivery
- Contribute to the design implementation and optimisation of energy trading and risk management systems and digital decision support tools
- Apply market intelligence and analytics to guide trading and operational decisions
- Manage relationships with financial derivative providers for price risk management
- Ensure prudent hedging and price risk mitigation in collaboration with finance and treasury
Lifting Operations Oversight
- Oversee lifting operations and ensure crude oil entitlements are executed in accordance with contracts and schedules
- Coordinate with terminal operators joint venture partners and customers to ensure timely lifting
- Manage post lifting claims including demurrage quantity and quality issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
Risk Management and Governance
- Design and implement financial risk management strategies using authorised derivatives such as futures options and swaps
- Ensure compliance with credit counterparty and financial risk controls
- Ensure adherence to internal policies international regulations sanctions and anti bribery requirements
Market Intelligence Research and Analysis
- Lead development of market intelligence on crude pricing macroeconomic trends and regulatory developments
- Monitor competitor activity refinery demand shipping trends and carbon regulations
- Produce internal market research reports and forward looking analysis for UNOC stakeholders
Product Development and Innovation
- Lead development of new crude oil products and commercial offerings
- Work with data and analytics teams to develop decision support and analytical tools
Stakeholder and External Relations
- Coordinate with upstream midstream and refining entities to align production and marketing activities
- Represent UNOC in government engagements international forums and industry conferences
- Maintain effective working relationships with terminal operators offtake coordinators and joint venture partners
Leadership and Team Development
- Build and lead a high performing commercial team with expertise in trading analytics and contract management
- Drive performance management training and succession planning with a focus on developing Ugandan talent
- Promote a culture of ethics compliance transparency and accountability
