Job Description
The GT Sales Manager will lead the development and execution of sales strategies for the general trade channel, including forecasting, territory planning, team management, and sales optimization. The role demands strong leadership to build and motivate a high-performing sales team, effective coordination with the marketing department for promotional support, and deep market analysis to identify growth opportunities and combat competition. The manager will also be responsible for establishing efficient distribution networks and ensuring compliance with sales procedures and systems.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Planning and Budgeting:
Develop detailed sales plans and budgets to achieve annual GT sales objectives
Monitor budget execution and address deviations to maintain market competitiveness
Target Setting and Achievement:
Establish clear sales targets and quotas across territories
Maintain and expand the customer base by managing TSIs and identifying new customer opportunities
Recommend new product lines or service improvements based on market trends and consumer feedback
Sales and Distribution:
Drive sales performance by implementing an effective route-to-market strategy
Recruit and manage Territory Sales In-Charges (TSIs) and support teams
Conduct market visits to review route coverage, distribution reach, and competitor activity
Market Information and Reporting:
Provide timely and accurate information to distributors and customers on new products, promotions, and services
Analyze sales data and market trends, preparing regular reports and recommendations for management
System and Operational Coordination:
Implement efficient sales administration procedures and systems to support operations
Monitor competitors’ activities and propose improvements to enhance sales execution
Marketing Support:
Coordinate with the marketing team to ensure brand visibility through merchandising and promotions in GT markets
Organizational Development:
Build and develop a sales organization structure aligned with the company's strategic needs
Train, motivate, and retain high-performing sales teams
Ensure optimal use of company assets across regions through ROI models
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in sales and marketing, preferably within the FMCG sector
Proven ability to lead and manage sales teams effectively
Skills and Competencies:
Strong IT, budgeting, and report-writing skills
Excellent negotiation, sales, and presentation skills
Effective leadership and team motivation capabilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
High-level organizational and planning skills
Ability to perform under pressure and solve problems creatively
Commitment to achieving and exceeding sales targets
