About LIT Project:
EDUKANS International Uganda will be implementing the Leaders in Teaching program supported by Mastercard Foundation in a consortium led by Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF). Leaders in Teaching (LIT) initiative aims to transform secondary education across Africa by strengthening the capacity of teachers and school leaders to enable young people to acquire skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to gain dignified and fulfilling employment. EDUKANS is a downstream partner under the TRAIN pillar led by British Council which will lead efforts in innovation, competency-based curriculum, gender-responsive pedagogy and career guidance.

Job Description
Job Title: Gender Specialist

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The postholder will be responsible for:
Leading and advising team of technical experts under the LIT programme in customizing a training package on gender-responsive pedagogy (GRP) for teacher educators.
Analyzing existing curricula to identify areas of improvement and integrating gender responsive pedagogy entrepreneurship and financial literacy curriculum.
Providing technical support to teacher educators in gender-responsive pedagogy as a powerful strategy for achieving quality education that is gender-equitable and transformative.
Providing technical support and coordination in project design, research, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and documentation for gender responsive pedagogy in teacher training and education.
Facilitating Institutional readiness and commitment at the teacher training institutions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Review the pre-service teacher training curriculum by assessing the extent to which GRP is integrated and being delivered. Tasks under this objective include the following.
To examine the level of knowledge, attitudes and pedagogical competencies teacher educators possess to deliver GRP content through the existing courses or modules.
To analyze gaps and existing best practices in the integration of GRP in colleges of education and schools and provide recommendations on how to strengthen such practices for improved pre-service teacher training outcomes in Uganda.
To develop and validate the training materials/modules including initial piloting in the targeted teacher training institutions.
Integrate Gender responsive pedagogy in higher education institutions teacher training institutions.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Relevant degree/ Master’s degree in Gender or Education with strong bias in teacher education and curriculum development, or related field;
Practical work experience in capacity development for teachers in the gender equality and gender mainstreaming, gender responsive pedagogy in education;
Demonstrated work experience in executing educational research, development of education sector policies and frameworks and policies particularly in teacher education.
