Job Description
The Financial Accountant will apply accounting principles to monitor and analyze financial transactions, ensure accurate recording, and produce financial reports that support operational and strategic decisions. The role involves managing month-end closing, cost centre allocations, compliance reporting, risk identification, and continuous process improvement. The incumbent will work closely with line managers to provide management accounting insights, participate in projects, and manage performance within the accounting area.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Promote teamwork among peers and team members.
Manage and report on cost usage aligned with planned work parameters.
Develop solutions to meet customer and business demands.
Ensure continuous improvement of operational accounting processes.
Execute monthly financial accounting functions including data gathering, analysis, and interpretation.
Provide management accounting support to line managers to improve decision-making.
Process month-end closing and cost centre allocations.
Identify financial risks and propose solutions to management.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory reports.
Generate compliance and manpower reports according to system rules.
Participate in projects as required.
Analyze and recommend improvements in operational processes.
Consult with business units on variance analysis and financial information.
Manage performance of staff within the accounting function.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Experience in general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and period-end closings.
Strong understanding of reconciliations: bank, intercompany, and control accounts.
Exposure to invoicing, billing, and revenue processes.
Ability to review Income Statements and Balance Sheets, interpret variances, and provide commentary.
Skilled in preparing internal management reports; familiarity with Excel and ERP systems such as Oracle is preferred.
Working knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and IFRS principles.
Experience maintaining mandates and authority matrices.
Familiarity with payment authorization processes.
