Monthly Salary: UGX 4,975,990 (UGX 59,711,880 annually, subject to tax)

The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Finance Executive to support the finance and administration function in Uganda, aligned with STiR’s global financial strategy. This role ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, timely reporting, and efficient financial operations. You’ll be central to maintaining accurate records, ensuring payments are processed correctly, and supporting grants and project financial reporting.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Financial Integrity & Reporting
Ensure accuracy of financial information and reports at all times
Update financial records in the ERP system promptly
Conduct timely and accurate reconciliations (bank, general ledger, cash)
Support audit readiness by preparing schedules and resolving queries
Maintain financial controls in accordance with STiR policies and Ugandan laws
2. Payments & Expenditure Management
Prepare payments only when fully supported and within approved budgets
Ensure proper coding in line with the chart of accounts
Verify the accuracy of vendor invoices and e-receipts
Manage contract and operational payments per agreed terms
Maintain integrity of banking platforms and payment systems
3. Cash & Bank Operations
Monitor receipts and disbursements, ensuring completeness
Minimize cash transactions by promoting e-money platforms
Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and submit for approval
4. Grant & Project Financial Support
Maintain and reconcile grant-specific ledgers
Track project bank and cash account activities
Support the preparation of grant financial reports for funders
5. Tax & Compliance
Work with the Senior Finance Manager to ensure full tax compliance
Accurately calculate and apply applicable taxes (WHT, VAT, income tax, etc.)
Maintain a list of WHT-exempt vendors for reference
6. Global Reporting & Governance
Prepare weekly payment batches and monthly variance analyses
Support the month-end close and global reporting requirements
Uphold STiR’s values and promote a professional, collaborative team culture
Support audits and act on any resulting recommendations
Ensure contracts (e.g., rent, insurance) are monitored and fulfilled
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance is an added advantage
CPA (U) or ACCA (full or part-qualified) is desirable
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the development/NGO sector
Strong grasp of Ugandan tax laws and financial regulations
Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
Comfortable working in cross-functional and multicultural environments
