Position Summary
APCA is seeking a dynamic Executive Director (ED) to provide strategic leadership and drive the organisation’s mission across Africa. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will be responsible for advancing APCA’s vision, managing multi-country programmes, and representing the organisation at regional and global levels. This is a key leadership role focused on strategy, partnership development, resource mobilisation, and organisational sustainability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide visionary and strategic leadership, ensuring alignment with APCA’s mission and values.
Lead resource mobilisation efforts to secure core, research, and programme funding for sustained organisational growth.
Collaborate with the Board to strengthen governance, policy, and performance monitoring.
Build and nurture high-level partnerships with governments, academia, and global health institutions.
Ensure effective management of human and financial resources for operational excellence.
Oversee strategic communication and public relations to raise APCA’s visibility and influence.
Guarantee compliance with legal and governance requirements across all APCA operations.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role within a continental or global organisation.
Strong background in the non-governmental sector.
Proven success in securing diverse funding streams, including core and project-specific grants.
Experience leading multi-country health or development programmes in partnership with governments and institutions.
Previous experience reporting to a board and implementing strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams across various regions.
Skilled in engaging high-level stakeholders and facilitating technical and policy discussions.
In-depth understanding of African health systems and palliative care challenges.
Master’s degree in public health, health management, health policy, palliative care, or a related field is required.
PhD in a relevant field is desirable.
At least 10 peer-reviewed publications.
