The name "Abaana," meaning "children" in Luganda, reflects the organization's focus on youth empowerment. Abaana's mission encompasses building schools, sponsoring education, providing safe havens for street-connected children, and promoting health and sanitation.

The organization has constructed 17 primary schools in Uganda, currently serving approximately 7,000 children, and sponsors over 1,900 students by covering school fees, materials, uniforms, and basic medical care. Abaana also collaborates with local agencies to assist children living on the streets of Kampala, offering shelter and working towards family reunification.

  • Program Planning and Development: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement educational programs, curricula, and initiatives that align with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster partnerships with parents, families, and community organizations to support student learning and development. Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers, solicit feedback, and involve them in educational activities and initiatives.

  • Data Management and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report data on program enrollment, attendance, and outcomes. Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries to communicate program effectiveness and impact to stakeholders.

  • Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for educational programs and initiatives. Monitor expenditures, manage resources efficiently, and seek funding opportunities to support program sustainability and growth.

  • Compliance and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and policies governing education and child welfare. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Cultural Competence and Inclusion: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational programs and practices. Create inclusive learning environments that respect and celebrate the cultural backgrounds, identities, and perspectives of all learners.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and stakeholders to coordinate educational activities, share resources, and align efforts to achieve common goals. Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and stakeholders to ensure clarity and transparency in educational initiatives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for program improvement, innovation, and enhancement based on feedback, evaluation data, and emerging trends in education. Implement changes and adjustments to optimize program effectiveness and responsiveness to learner needs.

  • Leadership and Advocacy: Provide leadership, guidance, and advocacy on educational issues and initiatives within the organization and the broader community. Advocate for policies, practices, and resources that support quality education and positive student outcomes.

  • Minimum Degree in Education.

  • Minimum Diploma (preferably post-grad) in project planning and management or human resource management.

  • Must be proficient in email, Word and Excel.


Experience

  • At least 5 years work in a leadership position in a primary school (preferably headteacher level).

  • At least 3 years work in a non-profit, faith-based setting.

  • At least 2 years driving (manual and automatic preferred) with clean driving permit.
