Job Description
The DRR/CCA Officer will lead risk assessments, preparedness planning, and implementation of DRR and climate change adaptation activities at the school and community level. The officer will coordinate early warning systems, climate education, child-centered DRR/CCA clubs, and anticipatory action measures. The role requires close collaboration with local government authorities, partners, and school committees to mainstream DRR/CCA into education programs and promote child safety. The officer will also support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to ensure accountability and continuous learning.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct risk, vulnerability, and capacity assessments in schools and communities.
Develop preparedness and contingency plans with children, communities, and school committees.
Support the development and dissemination of disaster and climate early warning systems.
Facilitate training sessions for teachers, PTAs, SMCs, DRR/CCA clubs, and community groups.
Support integration of child-centered DRR/CCA practices in schools and program activities.
Provide technical support to field staff and partners on DRR/CCA and anticipatory action.
Monitor and evaluate DRR/CCA program interventions and document lessons learned.
Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Build and maintain effective collaboration with government officials, partners, and communities.
Promote safeguarding standards, ensuring all activities uphold SCI’s child protection policies.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Bachelor’s Degree/MSc/MA in Development Practice, International Relations, Health, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
3–5 years’ experience in DRR and Climate Change programming, preferably in an INGO.
Proven experience in risk-based approaches, vulnerability assessments, and contingency planning.
Experience in child-centered DRR/CCA and community-based programming.
Previous experience engaging with local governments, schools, and communities in South Sudan.
Demonstrated skills in project management, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting.
Experience in proposal writing and donor funding processes is an added advantage.

Politically and culturally sensitive with tact and diplomacy.
Fluent in English (oral and written).
Computer literate (MS Office Suite).

Desirable
Additional international language skills.
Strong influencing and advocacy experience.
