Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is a semi-autonomous Government Agency operating in partnership with the private sector and Government of Uganda to drive National economic growth and development. The Authority was setup by an Act of Parliament (Investment Code 1991, which was later revised to the Edition 2000 Lavs of Uganda) 2019 with the aim of promoting and facilitating private sector investment in Uganda.
UIA seeks to recruit highly competent, qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following vacant position.

Strategic Planning:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plans and initiatives to support the organization's goals.

  • Analyze current policies, procedures, and operations to recommend improvements and adjustments in alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Lead strategic planning sessions, ensuring that all departments contribute to and understand the long-term plans.


Research Management:

  • Oversee research projects, ensuring that they are conducted systematically and deliver meaningful insights.

  • Identify research priorities based on organizational needs, industry trends, and emerging opportunities.

  • Supervise the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to inform decision-making and support planning efforts.

  • Ensure that research methods meet rigorous standards of accuracy, reliability, and validity.


Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Analyze complex data sets to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities that can drive organizational growth and improvement.

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior leadership, boards, and stakeholders based on research findings.

  • Translate data and research results into actionable recommendations for improving operations, processes, or strategies.

  • Monitor external trends and benchmarks to keep the organization aligned with industry best practices.


Budget & Resource Allocation:

  • Assist in the management of budgets for research and planning initiatives, ensuring resources are allocated effectively.

  • Oversee the use of funds for research projects, ensuring fiscal responsibility and maximizing the return on investment.

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business administration, public policy, economics, social sciences, or a related discipline.

  • A master’s degree or higher (e.g., MBA, MPA, or a research-focused degree) is often preferred for senior roles.


Experience:

  • Significant experience (typically 7–10 years) in research, planning, policy development, or strategic management roles.

  • Experience in managing or overseeing research projects, including data analysis and report writing.

  • Experience in a leadership role, managing teams and coordinating cross-functional projects.

  • Experience in the specific industry or sector where the role is based (e.g., government, healthcare, education) is highly desirable.


Skills:

  • Research & Analytical Skills: Strong ability to design research projects, analyze complex data, and draw meaningful insights.

  • Strategic Thinking: Capacity to see the big picture and align research and planning efforts with organizational goals.

  • Project Management: Skilled in leading and managing projects with defined timelines, budgets, and deliverables.

  • Leadership & Team Management: Ability to inspire, lead, and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.

  • Communication & Presentation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting research findings and strategic plans to senior management or stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: Critical thinking skills to address challenges and develop innovative solutions based on research.

  • Budgeting & Financial Management: Ability to oversee and manage the financial aspects of research and planning initiatives
