Job Description
Position Title: Database Administrator
Organization: KCB Bank Uganda
Location: Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage and support high-performance, highly available, and mission-critical database platforms for Core Banking, NOBS, Channels, and other key systems.
Review and design database structures to meet business requirements, including logical and physical data modeling, and provide comprehensive documentation on data model design and implementation.
Install, configure, and maintain database instances; create database objects; and set up users with appropriate security roles and access levels.
Implement database security policies in alignment with established security standards and best practices, ensuring these practices are embedded in DBA procedures.
Implement and execute database backup and recovery strategies that meet organizational recovery and availability needs, including assessment of data suitability and optimal storage organization.
Manage and support the Enterprise Data Warehouse, including report development and maintenance of the data warehouse platform.
Perform complex analyses and review applications prior to release into production.
Develop and oversee the implementation of test application code within client-server environments to ensure compliance with build management practices.
Collaborate with development, testing, and support teams to provide design guidelines and conduct impact analysis.
Work closely with Operations and Support teams to resolve system performance and design issues.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Position Qualification Requirements
a) Academic & Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (required).
Added Advantage:
Professional certifications such as ITIL, OCP, OCA, or Oracle certifications.
Master’s degree (MSc in Technology or Business).
b) Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Oracle/Database Administration, UNIX, Data Mining, Data Warehousing, and Core Banking Systems.
