Job Title:  Corporate Communications Officer

Organisation: Atomic Energy Council

Job Summary: To develop, implement and coordinate effective strategic corporate communication, public information and stakeholder engagement strategies that enhance transparency, safety culture, public understanding and confidence in the Atomic Energy Council mandate of ensuring the safe and secure use of Atomic Energy.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop website articles and multimedia content.

  • Develop articles for print and electronic media corporate publication.

  • Manage AEC’s corporate identity and branding.

  • Update communications databases.

  • Participate in carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

  • Update the official website and social media platforms with timely, accurate and relevant information.

  • Participate in the development, implementation and review of the corporate communication strategy and plan.

  • Participate in the development of the annual communication work plan and budget.

  • Prepare press releases and media statements through print, electronic and digital media.

  • Participate in the organization of press conferences, media briefing and public awareness events.

  • Participate in the implementation of stakeholder emergency programs.

  • Coordinate public education and awareness campaigns on radiation safety, nuclear security and regulatory compliance.

  • Participate in the development of an emergency communication plan during incidents and accidents.

  • Participate in the preparation of periodic communication reports.

  • Participate in stakeholder consultations during development of Regulations.

  • Participate in the development and management of internal communication systems.

  • Coordinate preparation of pre-scripted messages, FAQs and communication toolkits for rapid dissemination during emergencies.

  • Promote Atomic Energy Council’s vision, mission and core values through effective, consistent, evidence based messaging.

  • Monitor local and international media coverage of nuclear and radiation issues, respond to misinformation or misrepresentation and prepare media analysis reports for management.

  • Monitor online engagement and public sentiment, providing analytical reports for management decision making.

  • Document events, stakeholder consultations and outreach activities through photography, videography and official reports.

  • Maintain an archive of communication materials, speeches and media interactions for institutional memory.

  • Participate in the drafting of official statements, speeches and presentations.

  • Participate in the preparation of policy briefs and advocacy materials for regulatory purposes.

  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly and annual communication performance reports for management.

  • Participate in internal audits and management reviews to assess effectiveness of communication processes.

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with journalists, editors and media houses to promote accurate and responsible reporting on nuclear and radiation safety.

  • Maintain and regularly update a stakeholder database for effective communication and coordination.

  • Carry out Research.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • At least a Second Class Upper Bachelor’s degree in either Mass Communication or Corporate Communication or Public relations or Journalism or Communications Sciences from a recognized and reputable university.

  • A Masters’ degree or Post Graduate qualification in Communication Management or Strategic Communication or Public Information is an added advantage.

  • Experience or qualification in Nuclear science and technology is an added advantage.

Working Experience

  • At least two (2) years working experience as a Corporate Communication Officer in a reputable organization.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Understanding of radiation and nuclear safety concepts

  • Proven experience in media relations, crisis communication and digital communication management

  • Proficiency in ICT tools, multimedia software and digital content management systems

  • Commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability and safety culture

  • Experience in creative and strategic thinking

  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Ability to make decisions

  • Report writing, presentation and communication skills

  • Knowledge of strategic communication

  • Demonstration of personal drive and self-motivation

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills

  • Creative and innovative thinker

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision

  • Sound knowledge of the Atomic Energy Act Cap. 154, Regulations thereunder and IAEA Safety Standards.

  • Age: 21-30 years
