Consultant – Tax Compliance job at Palladium

Job Description
The Consultant will support FGEs established under the CSJ project to meet statutory tax compliance obligations in Uganda. These enterprises require guidance to register and file VAT, PAYE, provisional, and annual tax returns. The Consultant will prepare financial statements and train FGE representatives to handle future compliance requirements independently. This role involves a blend of hands-on technical work and capacity building to ensure long-term sustainability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist FGEs to register for necessary tax obligations (e.g., VAT, PAYE).
Train FGEs on statutory compliance and tax filing procedures.
Prepare and submit the following financial statements for each FGE:
Trial Balance
Statement of Comprehensive Income
Statement of Financial Position
Cash Flow Statement
Statement of Changes in Equity
Cash and Cash Equivalents
Income Tax Computations
File both provisional and final tax returns on behalf of each FGE.
Train FGE finance personnel and confirm knowledge transfer with attendance and feedback records.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA certification is mandatory.
Experience:
At least 7 years of experience in audit and tax, with relevance to agriculture and rural businesses.
Strong background in preparing and interpreting financial statements.
Proven ability to train non-experts using practical, easy-to-understand methods.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Ugandan tax laws and financial reporting.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
Knowledge of Luo or other Northern Uganda languages is an added advantage.
Results-driven, innovative, adaptable, and a proactive communicator.
