Job Title: Community Support Assistant (Kaabong) – 1 Position

About the Project
The STRENGTH Project, funded by MFA Denmark, is a multi-partner initiative led by ADRA Denmark, implemented in Uganda by ADRA Uganda in partnership with Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU), and in South Sudan by ADRA South Sudan. The project aims to build climate-smart livelihoods and promote sustainable natural resource management in conflict-affected areas of Uganda and South Sudan. It seeks to empower communities to better withstand climate and weather-related shocks through local adaptation initiatives.
Job Purpose
The Community Support Assistant will play a key role in the field-level implementation of the STRENGTH project in Kaabong. This role involves mobilizing communities, supporting group activities, conducting community engagement sessions, and collecting field data. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with local leaders and stakeholders while promoting climate resilience and sustainable practices.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Mobilize and engage local communities in project activities, including establishing and supporting Farmer Field Schools (FFS), Farmer Market Schools, and Climate Smart Agriculture groups.
Facilitate community-level conflict analysis and build consensus on issues affecting resilience and livelihoods.
Support the formation and capacity building of groups for sustainable natural resource management.
Organize community sensitization meetings, dialogues, and barazas to promote project goals.
Build strong working relationships with local leaders, district officials, and stakeholders.
Mentor community groups through field coaching, encouraging sustainability and innovation.
Assist with the planning and implementation of small-scale community adaptation initiatives.
Collect and document field data, success stories, lessons learned, and provide regular updates.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting on all field activities.
Promote inclusion and participation of women, youth, IDPs, and host communities in all project activities.
Adhere to ADRA’s safeguarding policies, ensuring all community engagements are respectful and inclusive.
Manage basic financial records related to field activities and submit reports to the Project Coordinator.
Perform other duties as assigned to support effective project implementation.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
At least 2 years of field experience in community mobilization, development, or similar roles—preferably with NGOs or community-based projects.
Fluency in English and at least one local language spoken in Kaabong District (Karamojong or related dialects).
Strong skills in community mobilization, participatory facilitation, and local engagement.
Ability to work independently in remote areas with minimal supervision.
Resident of Kaabong District with strong community ties (mandatory).
Valid motorcycle riding permit and ability to travel across difficult terrain.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Good documentation and basic reporting skills.
Knowledge or interest in climate change adaptation and sustainable livelihoods is an added advantage.
High levels of integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
Strong time management and attention to detail.
