Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Community Liaison Officer, the Community Liaison Officer will play a critical role in managing relationships and engagements with local communities, leaders, and government authorities. The Officer will facilitate the implementation of conservation and development activities, ensure smooth communication between the Company and the communities, address community concerns, and support various project functions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural sensitivity, possess strong community mobilization skills, and have a deep understanding of integrated conservation and development practices.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct stakeholder mapping and manage relational engagements with community leaders and groups.
Build comprehensive knowledge of community demographics, concerns, and priorities.
Engage local influencers and leaders to disseminate accurate project-related information.
Raise awareness about project operations and their potential impacts on communities.
Identify opportunities to support beneficial community initiatives and escalate them to supervisors.
Communicate safety, security, and emergency risk information to community members.
Support other departments (Construction, Environment, Social Performance, etc.) in community engagement efforts.
Act as the first point of contact for land access, compensation, and livelihood restoration processes.
Facilitate early-stage project activities and maintain regular operational engagement with stakeholders.
Organize meetings and consultations tailored to community needs and cultural practices.
Ensure inclusivity by addressing the specific needs of vulnerable groups.
Manage the Community Grievance Mechanism and ensure resolution and feedback.
Maintain records of stakeholder engagements and grievances in the project’s information system.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Rural Development, Environmental Management, or related field.
Postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in rural or mining environments.
Proven experience in community development programs or similar fields.
Solid understanding of community conservation, integrated development, and livelihoods.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to relate with diverse stakeholders.
Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Experience organizing and documenting community meetings and consultations.
Proficiency in data analysis and effective verbal and written communication.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to escalate complex issues appropriately.
