Job Description
Position Title: Communications Volunteer
Organization: Habitat for Humanity Uganda
Location: Uganda
Position Summary
Habitat for Humanity Uganda is seeking a passionate and creative Communications Volunteer to support its Communications Department in delivering both internal and external communication strategies. The role involves managing social media, developing content, enhancing brand visibility, building media relations, and documenting program impact. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in communications while contributing to meaningful community development work.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Digital & Social Media Management
Maintain and update Habitat Uganda’s social media platforms and website.
Track and report on analytics, engagement, and media coverage.
2. Content Creation & Storytelling
Gather and produce compelling content from program areas, including human-interest stories, case studies, and testimonials.
Create and edit multimedia content such as photos, videos, success stories, press releases, and publications.
Document program activities using digital and multimedia tools.
3. Internal Documentation & Knowledge Management
Organize and maintain a centralized archive of communication materials.
Assist in drafting, compiling, and editing project reports and departmental content.
4. Media Relations & Brand Visibility
Support planning and execution of media-related events to enhance visibility and ensure brand consistency.
Assist with press relations and dissemination of communication materials.
Conduct background research and compile information on key communication topics.
5. Administrative & Cross-Departmental Support
Collaborate with program teams to gather content and address communication needs.
Participate in field visits and support timely documentation of community engagements and field activities.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
1–2 years’ relevant experience through internships, volunteering, or academic projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing social media accounts or producing digital content.
Familiarity with photo/video editing and design tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Canva).
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling ability.
Basic understanding of communication tools and digital strategies.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram).
Willingness to travel to field locations.
Genuine interest in communications and community development.
