Job Description
This role involves handling shipping documentation in line with Nigerian and international regulations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of import/export permits, liaising with customs and port authorities, and maintaining accurate records of all logistics activities. The officer will play a critical role in ensuring cargo movement is in full compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines, and other regulatory bodies such as SON, NESREA, and NAFDAC. A strong understanding of HS codes, customs tariff acts, and shipping documentation such as Air Waybills and Bills of Lading is essential.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Check documents for accuracy and completeness; flag missing or incorrect paperwork
Handle form M, LC application for imports, and NXP for exports
Prepare and manage pre- and post-shipment documentation
Ensure compliance with CBN, customs, SON, NESREA, and NAFDAC regulations
Liaise with suppliers to ensure accurate documentation for form M and LC processing
Manage customs clearing processes and material delivery
Ensure draft shipping documents align with approved POs
Process foreign exchange control documents (FECD)
Classify goods according to HS codes and calculate import duties/taxes
Maintain records of all import/export activities and ensure documentation is up to date
Liaise with ports, customs, and inspection agencies
Provide container tracking and coordinate with yards on space availability
Ensure all shipments are accurately recorded and properly filed
Prepare daily reports and submit to head office
Resolve discrepancies and manage stakeholder communications for efficient issue resolution
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's Degree in any discipline
3–5 years of experience in freight forwarding and supply chain management
In-depth knowledge of customs procedures, HS codes, and shipping documentation
Familiarity with LC processing, SONCAP, NAFDAC, NESREA permits, and related regulations
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience working with inspection agencies, banks, terminals, and shipping lines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines
