Position: Assistant Underwriting Manager

Role Summary:
GA Insurance Uganda is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as an Assistant Underwriting Manager. This role supports the Underwriting Manager in leading day-to-day operations and plays a key role in driving underwriting excellence, maintaining service standards, and supporting strategic initiatives.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support the Underwriting Manager in managing daily underwriting activities.
Assess and authorize risks within assigned authority limits.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to underwriting team members.
Assist in the formulation and implementation of underwriting policies, procedures, and risk appetite frameworks.
Evaluate complex or high-value submissions and recommend suitable pricing and coverage options.
Collaborate with brokers, banks, agents, and internal teams to ensure smooth workflow and service delivery.
Participate in underwriting audits and ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards.
Contribute to product development and continuous process improvement.
Ensure consistent alignment with company underwriting policies and manuals.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of market trends and underwriting practices.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams in a high-pressure environment.
Self-driven and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong relationship-building and networking capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 5 years of experience in underwriting, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior-level underwriting position.
A relevant degree in Business, preferably in Insurance or a related field.
Diploma in Insurance (ACII or equivalent certification).
