Job Description
The Assistant Manager, Engineering supports the Chief Engineer by managing day-to-day engineering activities including preventive maintenance of hotel equipment. This role assumes the Chief Engineer’s responsibilities in their absence and provides leadership through training and supervision of the technical services team. The Assistant Manager ensures compliance with quality standards for equipment procurement, maintains firefighting appliance knowledge, monitors utility consumption, prepares reports, and maintains accurate records. The role also involves vendor management, emergency response, and keeping abreast of technological advances in safety and equipment operations. Coordination with user departments and participation in management meetings as a representative of the engineering department are also key responsibilities.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist Chief Engineer in daily engineering operations and preventive maintenance
Assume Chief Engineer responsibilities in their absence
Conduct training sessions for engineers and technical staff
Review engineering log books daily and take corrective action
Communicate all engineering activities and incidents to Chief Engineer
Coordinate with vendors and outside agencies for repairs and maintenance
Check quality of procured engineering goods
Maintain knowledge of firefighting appliances and safety procedures
Represent engineering department in management meetings when required
Make timely decisions to ensure smooth operations and respond to emergencies
Manage vendor relationships and finalize quotations
Monitor and record utility consumption to assist in maintaining efficiency
Maintain history cards for all plant equipment
Supervise and lead technical services department staff
Advise on duty rosters and oversee daily coordination of technical services
Prepare reports, maintain inventories, and order equipment and supplies
Ensure correct maintenance of all equipment with user departments
Inspect equipment and systems regularly to maintain standards
Stay updated on technological advances in equipment safety and surveillance
Report operational issues promptly to supervisors
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma or degree in engineering or related trade, with relevant certifications
Minimum 2 to 3 years experience as a multi-skilled technician in a five-star or full-service hotel or similar service industry
Knowledge and experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems within hotel operations
Strong supervisory and leadership skills
Ability to manage vendor relationships and emergency situations effectively
Good understanding of Capex and Opex budgeting and item management
