Job Description
The role involves implementing underwriting strategies, analyzing risks, and ensuring appropriate pricing for medical insurance policies. The Assistant Health Underwriter will determine acceptance or rejection of proposed risks, set premium rates and policy terms, ensure implementation of risk survey recommendations, and maintain compliance with company credit policies. Additionally, the role includes accurate record-keeping and maintaining both manual and electronic client data.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support implementation of underwriting philosophy, strategy, and guidelines for medical insurance
Assess and analyze proposed risks to decide on acceptance or rejection
Determine appropriate rates and terms for accepted risks
Communicate risk survey recommendations in a timely manner and ensure their implementation
Monitor compliance with company credit policies among underwriters
Maintain accurate and organized client records in both manual and digital formats
Operate within the approved Delegated Authority Matrix
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Insurance
Progress towards a professional qualification in Insurance (e.g., ACII, FLMI, or IIK)
2–4 years of experience in medical underwriting
Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and organizational abilities
Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and insurance software systems
