Job Title: Assistant Communications Officer – Volunteer Jobs

Job Summary:
CECIC is seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Assistant Communications Officer (Volunteer) to support the implementation of the organization’s communication and visibility strategy. The volunteer will work closely with the Programs Officer to document CECIC’s activities, manage digital content, and strengthen the organization’s brand presence across traditional and online media platforms.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for young professionals to gain practical experience in environmental communications, social media management, and public advocacy.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support the development and dissemination of communication materials such as newsletters, blogs, press releases, and social media content.
Assist in managing CECIC’s social media accounts (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Instagram).
Capture, edit, and organize photos and videos from field activities and advocacy events.
Maintain and update CECIC’s website content in collaboration with the Programs and IT teams.
Contribute to storytelling initiatives that highlight community voices and project impact.
Support the organization of media engagements, campaigns, and public events.
Document success stories, lessons learned, and field reports for internal and external sharing.
Ensure brand consistency and adherence to CECIC’s communication guidelines.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (or final-year student) in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Communication, or related field.
At least 1 year of experience in communications, media relations, or content creation (volunteer or professional).
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Proficiency in social media management and digital content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, CapCut, or equivalent).
Basic photography and video editing skills are an added advantage.
Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
Passion for environmental protection, climate justice, and community empowerment.
Willingness to volunteer and learn in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.
Terms of Engagement
This is a volunteer position for an initial period of six (6) months, renewable based on performance and organizational needs. While the position is unpaid, CECIC may provide facilitation for fieldwork and official assignments in line with its volunteer policy.
