Accounts Office Receivables job at MRC/ UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit

Job Description

The position holder will assist in providing financial support to various aspects in the accounts department which include Petty cash management and cashiering, to assist in producing monthly cash and bank reconciliations, issuing travel approved cash advances and following for accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Raising customer invoices and submitting them for posting to the Accountant;

  • Entering recharges journals in the accounting system (Dynamics) and ensuring entries are correctly coded using the Unit expense code and cost centers;

  • Monthly reconciliation of the customer accounts and sending correspondences on outstanding balances;

  • Raising and entering platform incomes and recharges for each specific period;

  • Obtaining overheads and entering them into the accounting system and monitoring to ensure the overheads are up to date;

  • Ensuring customer queries are resolved regarding the running balances on the customer accounts;

  • Raising and entering provisions for each period and submitting the entries to the senior accountant for posting;

  • Supporting year-end audits by picking the necessary audit evidence; and,

  • Accruing necessary project expenses as raised by the senior accountant.

Qualifications and Competencies

Person Specification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration;

  • Professional Accountant qualification (ACCA, ICPAU) working towards full qualification;

  • Additional Accounting qualifications

  • Should possess at least 2 years consecutive working experience in a similar role in a fast-paced and dynamic medical research organization;

  • Experience of planning and coordinating change and transformation in the department;

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications;

  • Should possess knowledge working with MS Dynamics Navision ERP packages;

  • Excellent skills with analytical tools, including MS Excel analytical tools, donor specific templates, etc.;

  • Excellent knowledge of ERP and accounting software – MS Dynamics, AGRESSO;

  • Good written and verbal communication abilities in the English language, including ability to provide information for briefing;

  • Good inter-personnel and negotiating skills, with ability to nurture internal partnerships across programs and departments;

  • Ability to present ideas and information in a clear and persuasive manner;

  • Good team-working skills;

  • Able to work independently in a faced-paced and dynamic environment; and,

  • Proactive and pays attention to detail.
