East African Ministries" can refer to government bodies like Uganda's Ministry of East African Community Affairs (MEACA) focused on regional integration (EAC) or faith-based/NGO groups like 4africa (formerly East African Ministries) and The East African Missionary Society (TEAMS) that provide aid, development, and spiritual support, with goals ranging from economic unity to community transformation through service, leadership, and faith. Our missionary focus in East Africa is to educate impoverished children and teach women skills which empower their lives. A steady growth of missions in the East African countries of Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya, led SND congregational leadership to decide that these missions were ready to become united as a general delegation under the sponsorship of the General SND Government in Rome. Our global mission priorities include uniting the SND missions of these three diverse countries, educating young native sisters in leadership and professional studies, and making a long-term plan for the delegation to one day become a province. The formation of a delegation is the next step before they become an independent province. The Holy Spirit General Delegation, also called the East Africa Delegation, was established on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2015, in Arusha, Tanzania. The initial leadership team included sisters from India, the US, and Africa. The team is now comprised entirely of African Sisters of Notre Dame.

This apprenticeship contributes directly to your professional development and the holistic development of learners, supporting the school’s mission to raise Christ-centered leaders.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

1 Lesson Planning and Assessment

  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and instructional materials to support effective lesson delivery as allocated on the timetable, including remedial support where necessary.
  • Assist in presenting lessons in a clear, engaging, and learner-centred manner, ensuring students understand key concepts and competencies in line with the prescribed curriculum.
  • Support the design, administration, and marking of assessments; maintain accurate records of learners’ performance; and provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Identify and apply a variety of teaching strategies, learning resources, and instructional tools to cater for diverse learning needs and enhance student understanding.
  • Conduct ongoing research and stay updated on curriculum changes, new topics, and subject content to ensure learners receive relevant and up-to-date knowledge.

2 Student Mentorship and Development

  • Model exemplary Christian character, personal integrity, and professionalism in all interactions within the school community.
  • Support the management of students’ behaviour in the classroom and school environment by applying appropriate strategies that promote discipline and a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Provide basic counselling and guidance to students as they navigate academic, social, and personal challenges, and refer complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Offer mentorship by being approachable, attentive to students’ concerns, encouraging goal setting, and serving as a positive role model in academic and personal conduct.

3 Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of learners’ progress, attendance, assessments, and any notable observations or incidents.
  • Prepare and submit required reports, including progress updates, lesson documentation, and curriculum implementation reflections.
  • Comply with all school policies, guidelines, and professional expectations.
  • Actively participate in school committees aimed at improving academic quality and school performance, such as curriculum, staff development, academic, and recruitment committees.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians regarding learners’ progress, behaviour, and school activities through approved channels.
  • Participate in and help organize extracurricular activities, including sports, debates, clubs, practical entrepreneurship, and school trips.
  • Attend all mandatory school programs and events, such as visitation days, workshops, student seminars, prefects’ vetting, and open forums.

4 Professional Development

  • Support and collaborate with colleagues, including trainee teachers and new staff, to promote continuous professional growth and teamwork.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to improve teaching skills, subject mastery, and pedagogical approaches.
  • Stay informed about curriculum revisions, educational trends, and CBC updates to ensure alignment with current academic standards.

5 Other Responsibilities

  • Undertake any additional duties assigned by the administration in support of the school’s mission, programs, and operational needs, provided that such assignments do not significantly change the nature and scope of your engagement.
