About the Organisation
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Opportunity: Environment Ranger (52 Positions)

Department: Environment Enforcement and Field Operations
Job Title: Environment Ranger
Reports To: Senior Environment Protection Officer
Salary Scale: NEMA E8
Number of Vacancies: 52
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitor, detect, and prevent environmental crimes in designated areas.
Participate in arrests, searches, and assist in the prosecution of individuals engaged in environmental degradation.
Provide security for the environment, property, NEMA staff, and visitors within operational areas.
Monitor and safeguard critical environmental ecosystems and resources, preventing encroachment or destruction.
Assist in environmental inspections and monitoring activities when assigned.
Collect field data to support environmental management and decision-making.
Operate communication equipment such as radios and relay information to the relevant personnel when required.
Gather and report intelligence related to environmental threats or activities.
Support community environmental education and awareness programs.
Contribute to the preparation of field operation reports.
Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
A credit in both English Language and Mathematics at O-Level is required.
Age Requirement:
Applicants must be 25 years or younger.
Competencies and Requirements:
Proven medical and physical fitness
Ability to work in demanding field conditions
High level of integrity and accountability
Strong team spirit and ability to collaborate
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Effective time management and discipline
Eligibility Criteria:
Must be a Ugandan citizen with a valid National Identity Card
Must be physically fit and healthy; candidates will undergo medical and physical fitness checks, including a road run
Must be of good conduct, with no criminal record
Willingness to undergo para-military training is mandatory
Presentation of false documents is a criminal offense and will lead to prosecution
