Established, in 1922, Makerere University is one of the oldest Universities in Africa and is currently ranked the 2nd best in research in Africa. It was the first university in East Africa to offer degrees in public health and it remains the leading School of Public Health in the region.
MakSPH is conducting an evaluation of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) toxicities and surveillance practices across several health facilities in Uganda. The project team is seeking qualified, responsible, and competent individuals to join the research team on short-term basis.

Job Description
Job Title: Qualitative Research Assistant (5 Positions)
Organisation: Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Study Coordinator
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in data collection according to the study protocol.
Answer respondent questions and ensure data quality through validation.
Provide daily updates on fieldwork, including completed interviews.
Participate in qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups) and analysis.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator or data collection team leaders.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection and analysis.
Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subject Protection is required.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Prior experience in health data collection, including qualitative interviews.
Experience interviewing healthcare workers or facility managers is an advantage.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
