About the Project
The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is implementing the USAID Local Partner Health Services – Kigezi Region (LPHS-Kigezi) project, a five-year initiative (2020–2025) funded by PEPFAR through USAID. The project aims to improve access to and quality of integrated HIV and TB services in the Kigezi sub-region of southwestern Uganda, supporting the achievement of the UNAIDS 95:95:95 targets across six districts.
Position Summary
JCRC is seeking three (3) qualified and compassionate Counselors to support the delivery of HIV/TB services in Kabale and Kanungu districts. This role involves providing high-quality counseling, psychosocial support, and community-based services to ensure continuity of care and improved health outcomes for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and TB patients.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver targeted HIV screening and testing services, including Pre-ART, adherence, and IAC counseling for new and existing clients.
Collaborate with health workers and expert clients to mobilize and deliver TB, PrEP in MCH, cervical cancer, and NCD screening and treatment services.
Offer client-centered psychosocial support to caregivers and PLHIV, including children and adolescents.
Work with community health workers to support client linkage to ART/TB treatment, retention, adherence, and treatment completion.
Assist health facility staff in managing appointment systems and follow-ups to ensure client continuity in care.
Conduct community outreaches for non-suppressed clients, index testing, home-based IAC, TPT, treatment refills, and follow-up visits.
Perform TB contact tracing and community TB screening at high-risk locations.
Refer clients to relevant health, social, and legal services as needed and maintain accurate daily activity logs and reports.
Use data tools in collaboration with data clerks/HIAs to plan and report on community HIV/TB activities including PMTCT/EID, care & treatment, and HIV testing services.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure holistic patient care.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A certificate or diploma in HIV/AIDS Counseling, or Counseling and Guidance
Nursing or midwifery training is an added advantage
Experience working in rural health settings
Familiarity with current MOH HIV/TB guidelines and donor-funded project priorities
Proficiency in the local language is required
