Job Description

Job Title:  Research Assistants (20 Fresher Data Collection Jobs)

Organisation: Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda


The study aims to

1) assess access to key HIV prevention services,

2) evaluate the utilization of HIV prevention products and services, and

3) Measure the proportion of HIV-positive AGYW, FSWs, and PWIDs linked to HIV/AIDS, STI care, and other essential health services.


The study districts are Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso, Buikwe, Mbarara, Kanungu, Hoima, Fort Portal, Kibaale, Mbale, Buyende, Iganga, Kaliro, Kumi, Serere, Busia, Tororo, Kitgum, Dokolo, Gulu, Lira, and Arua. MakSPH seeks to hire candidates for the position of field-based research assistant (duration: 1-2 months) to collect quantitative data across the selected districts in Uganda.


Languages required: Luganda (4 positions), Runyankole/Rukiga (2), Runyoro (2 positions), Rutoro (1 position), Lusoga (2 positions), Lumasaaba/Lugisu (2 positions), Ateso (2 positions), Japadhola (1 position), Lugbara (1 position), Luo (2 positions), and Alur (1 position). (Please specify language and district of preference in the application).

  • Degree in a health-related discipline, humanities, or an equivalent from a recognized institution.


Experience, Skills and other Requirements

  • Prior experience in conducting interviews among the key populations mentioned above

  • Proficiency (both spoken and written) in at least one of the following local languages is a must: Luganda, Runyankole/Rukiga, Runyoro, Rutoro, Lusoga, Lumasaba/Lugisu, Ateso, Japadola, Lugbala, Luo/Acholi, and Alur.

  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to spend an extended period of time in the field and away from home

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Experience in collecting quantitative data using electronic data collection tools.
